South Florida is famous for its sunny beaches, ocean views, and seemingly endless dining scene. Yet surprisingly, there are very few viable options offering all three at once. But head to Deerfield Beach (between Ft. Lauderdale and Boca Raton), and you’ll find a glass-enclosed jewel box right along the beach – Oceans 234.
Strategically perched within a breadstick’s throw of the beach, Oceans 234 offers the ‘Perfect Storm‘ for a dining destination: Fantastic food, a stunning interior, a casual, friendly atmosphere, killer bar scene, and an expansive outdoor patio for relaxed al fresco dining — and of course, unparalleled views of the Atlantic Ocean and beach.
Owner Danielle Rosse started working at Oceans 234 at the tender age of 19, when it was just a rather sleepy, tourist-driven diner and typical Florida beach bar. But within a few years, she became the Director of Operations, and then acquired the restaurant shortly thereafter. Since then, Danielle has successfully transformed the diamond-in-the-rough into an alluring waterfront dining escape and South Florida mainstay, drawing locals and visitors alike. Although Oceans 234 was already ‘pretty,’ it’s now gorgeous – thanks to a recent a $1.8 Million renovation. The new settings is simply stunning — open and airy, designed to offer maximum visibility of the ocean from any seat – plus an expansive outdoor patio & bar.
But Oceans 234 is more than just a pretty face – it also serves up some truly notable cuisine, under the culinary mastery of new Executive Chef Brian Cantrell. Chef Cantrell’s new menu spans the culinary gamut, but of course leans heavily toward fresh fish and seafood – all kicked up a notch or two under the Chef’s inspired hand. Signature specialties range from Baja Fish Tacos, Grilled Octopus & Chorizo, Lollipop Chicken Wings, and Sushi and Raw Bar offerings for starters; to daily ‘Simply Grilled’ fresh fish entrees. As the affable Chef notes, “When fresh fish is cooked simply and properly, the best approach is to let it shine!” Other heartier options include Local Fish & Chips, Center Cut Filet Mignon, Pan Seared Salmon, Dijon Herb Crusted Rack of Lamb, and the perennial favorite, Lobster Mac n Cheese.
In keeping with the recent upgrades, Oceans 234 has also added a new expansive wine list and showcase wine room, along with a new dessert menu compliments of Pastry Chef Maria O’Hara; plus a creative Cocktail menu shaken up by Beverage Director Drew Shane. According to Drew, the new specialty drinks were created “to complement the restaurant’s new open design — bright flavors, great colors, and easy drinkability.”
Steering the ship is General Manager Tommy Mirisola, who keeps all the components sailing smoothly. As Danielle Rosse notes, Tommy “ensures the each employee delivers the goods, literally and figuratively — a key part of success during this new chapter in the restaurant’s history.”
Oceans 234 stands as a shining example of reviving the “Old Florida” tradition of breezy oceanfront dining, but with a new contemporary flair. “Great restaurants evolve,” notes Rosse, “It’s not about chasing trends or trying to get ahead of the next ‘hot new thing.’ My philosophy has always been to keep in touch with the times and with your customers, and deliver an amazing experience. I’m very excited about what Chef Brian and Drew have created and certain our guests will be thrilled with the new offerings.”
Danielle also believes in being a good community citizen, and Oceans 234 has been actively involved in helping many local charities, including Surfers for Autism (SFA); Women In Distress; St. Baldrick’s Foundation; Gwendolyn Clarke-Reed Neighborhood Initiative; and countless area food & wine fundraising events for charities.
